Warm Weather Extras Headwear |
||
Cors'rs are tied behind the head bandana stylee. |
All warm weather head gear is designed generally to offer some type of shade or cooling properties. All of these that you see are suitable though some might offer better protection than others. Generally hats with a peak shade the face more though are not designed to be worn under a helmet, unlike some of the banadanas, although you might just want to don a hat for the run / kayak stages and put it in the mesh pocket of your bag for example whilst wearing a helmet. |
|

| Marmot Mesh Sun Hat | With Coolmax mesh this ultralight headwear transfers moisture and is quick drying and very breathable. | |

Socks |
||
The Extremities Adventure Racing sock has a very high Cool Max content to ensure maximum dryness, protection and comfort. |
A cracking sock with lots of cushioning giving a fantastic combination of comfort and performance: if its really wet you might want to consider a thinner option in order to dry a bit quicker if that is important to you. |
|
|
|
The Toe Toe's provide a fit based on the anatomical design of the foot therby allowing free toe movement. | These socks might take a bit longer than conventional ones to put on and we certainly swear by them particularly over longer races. If you have as gnarley toes as some of us then they might be a godsend! |
Bridgdale 'X - Hale Socks or Bridgdale Womens 'X - Hale Socks |
When it's hot these socks exhale the heat, keeping your feet cool, particularly in extreme heat and during exercise, running or cycling. | Classic socks that have been raced across the like od the MDS, completed the gnarliest of adventure races, marathons etc time and time again - no hesitation in recommending them |

| Under Armour 'Escape' | Another cold weather favourite with small collars and a quarter zip. | Similair to the 'Blitz' but with slightly more versatility due to the quarter zip. |
| Raidlight 'Performer' Shirt | Extremely light with the usual high end spec associated with Raidlight products. | Suitable for cooler conditons rather than cold - more at the 'racing' end of the spectrum. |
| Raidlight 'Winter Trail' Shirt | Perfect for wintry conditions maintaining high levels of 'breathability'. | Great for high activity in wintry conditions. |
| Raidlight 'Winter Trail' Pullover | A very similair product as described above. | As above. |

Cool Weather Conditions Bottoms |
||
| Under Armour 'Action' Leggings or Womens Under Armour 'Action' Leggings | Arguably the perfect tight when the weather turns cool. Compression fit made of "Coldgear" fabric with flatlock seams ensures you are comfortable, warm and dry throughout your activity.. | These have been used in anger on many occasions - speak for themselves. |
| Under Armour 'Chase' Leggings or Womens Under Armour 'Frosty' Tights | Quite possibly the ultimate cold weather running tight. | Quite possibly they are ....... can't think of a reason why they might not be!! |
| Marmot Power stretch tights or Womens Marmot Power stretch tights. | Polartec® Power Stretch® fabrics feature body-hugging 4-way stretch and are very breathable. They are very versatile, keep you dry when you sweat and provide warmth without weight. Also consider rhe 3/4 length for intermediate climes in both womens and mens. | Power stretch has been around long enough to know its merits. They are fantastic at regulating heat and even when moderately wet still feel dry and offer suprising warmth. As used by many in the 6633ultra - what more can we say? |

| Buff | Take Buff on life's next adventure: the versatility and functionality of this product will simply amaze you! | Not as obvious as the usual but did you know they do polar Buffs? |
Cold Weather Extras: Gloves |
||
A great glove for cycling with a Gore WINDSTOPPER® back to eliminate wind-chill, therefore keeping the hands warm. |
These are fantatastic, tactile enough to operate the bike properly but dextrous enough to sort out zips etc. |
|
| Marmot 'Amphibian' Gloves | The Amphibian is Marmot's best imitation of a Gecko claw: grippy leather lines the palm and precisely placed Vibram rubber caps the fingers for utmost performance. | More substantial than the above, but as one might expect, not quite as dextrous as the above. |
| Marmot Power Stretch' Gloves | A classic all-purpose liner and cool-weather glove used for a multitude of activities. | As the description says really: a great value glove that does most things well though no windstopper for colder conditions means fingers can freeze particularly on the bike; a good running glove though. |
| All of these bags are suitable for 1 day adventure racing, although it really is up to the individual to tailor the bag to their requirements, depending on the criteria of the race (ie Do you need to carry shoes?) and the conditions on the day (Are extra waterproofs etc required due to adverse conditions etc). | ||
| Inov-8 Race Pro 4L | A large main compartment, two hip fin pockets and external bungee for extra storage make this pack ideal for light weight long distance running, | The Inov-8 belt pack really is the minimalist approach, but may not be enough if you are carrying extras such as bike shoes etc for different stages. |
| AARN Marathon Majic 10L | With 'Omni Flow', 'U Flow' and our 'Conus Clip' chest strap, these are the maestros of body movement and pack stability - superb for adventure racers, cyclists and runners alike. | These packs are new on the market and is revolutionary in the fact that the pack becomes part of you rather than 'on' you due to the unique design and strapping of the bags.Also consider the 20 Litre version if more kit is required to be carried. |
| OMM 'The Last Drop' 10L | A 10lt day sack with Bladder carry ability in internal pouch. Bottle carrying in 2 stretch mesh side pockets. Zip top fastening with additional flap fastened with Cord SR buckle. Full weight 350g, lean weight 275g. | As with all OMM products, a no frills product which performs admirably for the task to which it has been designed for |
| Raidlight 'Endurance' 10L | Breathable back (3 foam pads). 2 zip pockets (1 interior, 1 external). 1 mesh back pocket and 2 mesh side pockets. | A really cosy rucksack to wear that is absolutely ideal for 1 day races or multi stage races where you are only obliged to carry essential kit for the day. |
| Inov-8 Pro Race 12 | The Race Pro 12 is an elite lightweight hydration pack. Minimalist design makes this pack ideal for running, cycling and 1 day adventure racing. | Definately a formidable contender. Designed very much with adventure racing in mind. Of particular note is the large stretch mesh pocket on the rear large enough to hold a helmet. |
| Inov-8 Pro Race 18 | The Race Pro 18 is an elite lightweight hydration pack, similaitr to above but with 6 liters more capacity . | As above with the added benefit of a few more litres - would be worthy of consideration if weather conditions are less than you might have anticipated! |
| OMM 'Adventure Light' 20L | OMM's keen lightweight design, especially for the ability to strip down your pack to the bear essentials, the Adventure Light can almost be as light as you want to make it. Most importantly though, it is a highly functional, comfortable, running pack that can be with you for anything from light walks to long distance multi-day endurance events. |
Proabably erring towards the higher end capacity of what might be needed for a day race, but a great lightweight racing bag nonetheless! with the added benefit / downside(!!) of carrying the 'occassional item' for another team member! |
| Inov 8 Pro 22 | The Race Pro 22 is an elite lightweight functional hydration compatible pack. Includes a large stretch mesh pocket on the lid and side multi access pockets for storage of frequently accessed items. |
A cracking bag for elite racing that's got enough capacity to carry everything you might need for a day race particularly in adverse conditions. |
| Platypus Bladders | Another part of your pack which needs to be considered is the hydration element. In nearly all cases it would be a case of incooperating a bladder into your backpack. There are a number of choices about, but primarily it needs to obviously physically fit your pack (especially with the Inov-8 packs which sometimes require their own horizontal bladders)and secondly a little is down to personal choice - 2 litres would be normal, though there are 1 litre and 3 litre options available as seen here. | |
Equipment |
||
| Emergency Kit | It is always either essential or certainly extremely advisable that some form of first aid kit is carried. For one day races the favourite is the Adventure Medical Kits ultralight 3 which is extremely light and has the advantage of being in a sealable watertight case. It should be noted that it really is NOT a fully comprehensive kit and it might be worth considering adding to it as and where you see fit or if you have certain personal conditions etc. Other emergency kit often required is a whistle (might on the backpack fastening depending which model you might choose) and possibly a survival blanket which again should really from a basic part of any emergency kit weather racing or training. For further options see here. | |
| Multi - Tools | You don't neccesarily have to carry some great elaborate tool that takes aeroplane apart, but it might be worthy of considering a small tool particularly with scissors such as the Victorinox Classic SD. Have a look here to see what we have available, although it is worth noting that you may need specific tools if you intend to fix your bike with it! | |
| Sunglasses | Once again, a lot of personal choice going on here in terms of style, but there are some fundamentals which should be considered. Does it offer satisfactory eye coverage? Is the quality up to spec, do I need light changeable lenses or the ability to swap lenses depending on light conditions? Some also come with handy straps which mean you can remove your glassses without actually taking them off. Have a look here a variety of options of which all conform to the highest of standards. | |
Food & Electrolyte |
||
| Food | MuleBar believe there is no energy like natural energy which is why Mulebar™ is made from 100% natural, seriously tasty ingredients. | These are great: top marks for even attempting such flavours as 'Pinacolada'! Seriously though, rammed with energy and the healthy type at that: check Mulebar out for more info. Helped curb 'bonk' quite a few times now - in fact I don't go out for a ride without one now. Don't believe us? Have a look at this review on Sleepmonsters! |
| Freeze Dried Food | These freeze dried foods do not require to be cooked on a stove; the advantage of these meals is that you add boiling, or hot water to the bag, close the bag with the integral zip closure and wait five minutes for your meal to prepare. The food is eaten straight from the bag. There are two major brands that we stock: Expedition Foods and Adventure Foods, the latter being particularly favourable towards vegetarians. | Although perhaps not that relevant to a one day race lasting 6 hours or so, on more than a couple of occasions we have found ourselves tucking in to a few of these whilst kipping in the van the night / morning before a race. Definately a consideration for the likes of the OMM, Full Monty etc. |
| Electrolyte | Nuun : The development of nuun focused on the three most important aspects for proper hydration: Speed of absorption. Electrolyte content. Carbohydrate content. |
In our opinion a must, especially for longer hotter races. Available in five flavours; all are palatable and avoid the harsh, sickly tastes of some of the other 'energy' drinks. |
